Green Garlic Cheela

This cheela is a great example of healthy can be tasty too. Make your cheelas extra special by adding sorghum flour and whole wheat flour. When in season add fresh green garlic that has right flavour to give the tasty kick!

Ingredients

  • 10-15 green garlic bulbs
  • 2 green chillies, broken
  • 1 cup gram flour (besan)
  • ½ cup sorghum (jowar) flour
  • ½ cup whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta)
  • 10-15 green garlic stalks, finely chopped
  • ¼ teaspoon carom seeds (ajwain)
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for drizzling
  • Tomato ketchup to serve

Method

  1. Put green garlic bulbs in a blender jar, add green chillies and blend to a coarse paste.
  2. Take gram flour in a large bowl, add sorghum flour, whole wheat flour, blended paste, green garlic stalks, carom seeds, turmeric powder and salt and mix well.
  3. Add 1½ cups water in batches and mix till a lump free batter is formed.  
  4. Heat a non-stick tawa. Add a ladleful of batter and spread it lightly to a disc. Drizzle some oil all around and cook for 2-3 minutes on medium heat. Flip and cook the other side for 2-3 minutes as well. Make more cheelas with the remaining batter.
  5. Keep the cheelas on individual plates and serve hot with tomato ketchup.
