Spicy chutney made with dried red chillies and garlic makes a great accompaniment served with any snack. It can also be used to spice up any chaat or even bhel. It is easy to make and will keep for a few days when stored in a refrigerator

Ingredients

  • 10-12 dried red chillies
  • 8-10 garlic cloves
  • Oil for applying
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds

Method

  1. Apply some oil on your fingers and remove the seeds of the dried red chillies. Transfer the chillies into a large bowl, add sufficient water and soak for 2-3 hours.
  2. Drain the soaked chillies and put into a mixer jar. Add garlic cloves, lemon juice, salt, cumin seeds and ½ cup water and blend to a fine paste. 
  3. Transfer into a bowl and use as required.
