Super healthy, cabbage goes a long way back. In ancient times, the Greeks treated it as a special food for its many medicinal properties. There are tales about raw cabbage juice being a standard treatment for a nasty hangover! Salads, dals, sabzis, pickles and even raitas, cabbage does full justice to each preparation. Ingredients for Cabbage Black Chana Recipe

  • Cabbage 1 medium

  • Split Bengal gram (chana dal) soaked 1 1/2 cup

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Onion 1 medium

  • Potatoes 2 medium

  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Mustard seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Curry leaves a few

  • Dried red chillies 2-3

  • Green chillies cut into 3 pieces each 3

  • Ginger chopped 2 inch piece

  • Salt to taste

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

Method

Step 1

Shred cabbage but not too finely.

Step 2

Heat a pressure cooker and add oil.Slice onions. Quarter potatoes and cut into thick slices.

Step 3

Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, curry leaves, red chillies and green chillies in the pressure cooker. Add onions and sauté.

Step 4

Add ginger, potatoes, black chana, ¼ cup water, salt and turmeric powder. Mix well.Add cabbage, mix and cover.

Step 5

Cook till 3-4 whistles are given out. Open the lid when pressure is released and serve hot.
