Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Chana Dal Tikki Recipe

  • Split Bengal gram (chana dal) soaked for 2-3 hours and drained 1 1/2 cups

  • Medium onion chopped 1

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped 1/4 cup

  • Green chillies chopped 2-3

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Chaat masala 1 teaspoon

  • Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon

  • Ginger finely chopped 1 inch

  • Salt to taste

  • Gram flour 2 tablespoons

  • Oil to shallow fry

  • Tomato ketchup to serve


Step 1

Put split Bengal gram into a food processor jar, add onion, coriander leaves, green chillies, turmeric powder, chaat masala, garam masala, ginger and salt and process to a coarse paste.

Step 2

Transfer this mixture into a bowl, add gram flour and mix well. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into tikkis.

Step 3

Heat sufficient oil in a non-stick tawa, place the tikkis in it and cook, turning sides, till both sides are golden brown and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper

Step 4

Arrange them on a serving platter and serve hot with tomato ketchup.
