Favourite seafood? Prawns, prawns and more of prawns. A wide variety of small crustaceans, tiny relatives of the lobster, are known as prawns. Prawns are normally translucent when raw but get their distinctive pink or red colour on being cooked. one word of caution – if buying unpeeled prawns, smell for freshness and look for bright, shiny shells that have some spring left in them.

Ingredients for Cheesy Prawn Crisps Recipe

  • Small prawns shelled and deveined 1 cup

  • Processed cheese grated ¼ cup

  • Butter 2 tablespoons

  • Garlic cloves finely chopped 10-15

  • Onion finely chopped 1 small

  • Salt to taste

  • White pepper powder to taste

  • Milk ¾ cup

  • Refined flour (maida) 1 cup + 1 tablespoon

  • Ghee 2 tablespoons

  • Oil for deep-frying


Step 1

Heat butter in a non-stick pan. Add garlic and sauté for a few seconds.

Step 2

Add onion and sauté till translucent. Add 1 tablespoon flour and cook on medium heat for a few seconds.

Step 3

Add prawns, salt and pepper powder and sauté on high heat for 2-3 minutes.Add milk and mix well.

Step 4

Add cheese and mix well. Switch off heat and set aside to cool.

Step 5

Mix together 1 cup flour, ghee and salt in a bowl.Add sufficient water and knead into a stiff dough. Cover with a damp muslin cloth and set aside for 10-15 minutes.

Step 6

Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.

Step 7

Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and roll out into 4 inch diameter discs.

Step 8

Place a portion of prawn mixture on one half of each disc and fold the other half over. Seal the edges properly.

Step 9

Deep-fry the puffs till golden brown and crisp. Drain on an absorbent paper.

Step 10

Serve hot.
