Just when you thought that green peas are only used to add that extra punch to your savoury dishes, try a rich, creamy matar ki kheer to satiate your sweet buds too!

Ingredients for Khatu Meethu Estew Recipe

  • Green Peas 150 grams

  • French Beans 100 grams

  • Onions 250 grams

  • Sweet potatoes 2 medium

  • Oil to shallow fry

  • Tomatoes chopped 3

  • Green chillies chopped 3-4

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped 3 tablespoons

  • Fresh mint leaves chopped 1/2 bunch

  • Carrots 3

  • Potatoes 2 medium

  • Yam 250 grams

  • Garlic,chopped 6-8 cloves

  • Ginger 1 inch piece

  • Vinegar 3 tablespoons

  • Sugar 2 tablespoons

  • Salt to taste


Step 1

String the fresh beans and cut it into dices, peel the pickling onion, peel and cut the carrots, potatoes, yam and sweet potatoes into dices. Heat oil and shallow fry all the above vegetables individually.

Step 2

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan and sauté the sliced onion till light golden in colour then add chopped tomatoes, chopped green chillies, chopped coriander leaves, chopped mint leaves, chopped ginger and chopped garlic. Cook on a slow heat for 4-5 minutes.

Step 3

Add the fried vegetables and mix. Then add vinegar, sugar and salt. Simmer for 4 - 5 minutes remove and serve hot.
