Ingredients list for Kiwi Bread ka Halwa

  • 4 Kiwi peeled
  • 8 Brown bread slices
  • 2 tablespo Ghee
  • 1 tablespoon Melon seeds (magaz)
  • 1 tablespoon Cashewnuts chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Pistachios chopped
  • 1 tablespoon almonds chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Raisins
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • a few saffron strands
  • 1/4 cup Milk
  • 1/4 cup Khoya/mawa
  • a pinch Green cardamom powder

Method

  1. Heat sufficient ghee in a kadai.
  2. Trim edges of bread slices and cut into small cubes. Slide the cubes in hot ghee and deep-fry till golden and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.
  3. Heat 2 tablespoons ghee in a non-stick wok. Add melon seeds, cashewnuts, pistachios and raisins and sauté till well browned.
  4. Add sugar, 1½ cups water and stir to mix. Add saffron strands, mix well and cook.
  5. Blend kiwis into a coarse puree and add in the pan. Stir to mix and cook for 6-8 minutes.
  6. Add milk, fried bread cubes, mix well and add khoya. Mix well and add cardamom powder. Mix again and cook for 5 minutes or till the mixture reaches a halwa consistency, stirring continuously.
  7. Serve warm.
