The Maharashtrian hospitality is legendary. The cuisine has subtle variety and strong flavours and varies from region to region. In ancient times in the more affluent homes, feasts often started at mid-day and ended when the sun set! Ingredients for Maune Recipe

  • Refined flour (maida) 2 cups

  • Castor sugar (caster sugar) 1 1/4 cups

  • Ghee 6 tablespoons

  • Milk 1 1/4 cups

  • Oil to deep fry

Method

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 180°C.Knead together refined flour, castor sugar, ghee and milk to make a stiff dough.

Step 2

Cover with a damp cloth and rest for a few minutes.

Step 3

Divide the dough into equal portions and shape into small roundels called maunes.

Step 4

Place the maunes on a baking tray and place the tray in the preheated oven.

Step 5

Bake for twenty to twenty-five minutes or till light golden.

Step 6

Serve hot.
