Favourite seafood? Prawns, prawns and more of prawns. A wide variety of small crustaceans, tiny relatives of the lobster, are known as prawns. Prawns are normally translucent when raw but get their distinctive pink or red colour on being cooked. one word of caution – if buying unpeeled prawns, smell for freshness and look for bright, shiny shells that have some spring left in them.

Ingredients for Prawn Onion Bhajji Recipe

  • Medium prawns shelled and deveined 8-12

  • Large Onion sliced 1

  • Gram flour (besan) 4-5 tablespoons

  • Oil for deep-frying

  • Turmeric powder ¼ teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Coriander seeds crushed 1 teaspoon

  • Carom seeds (ajwain) ½ teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Crushed black peppercorns to taste


Step 1

Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.

Step 2

Take onion and gram flour in a bowl and mix. Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, crushed coriander seeds, carom seeds and salt and mix well. Add water as required and mix well.

Step 3

Take prawns in another bowl. Add salt and crushed peppercorns and mix well.

Step 4

Coat each prawn with onion-flour mixture and deep-fry in hot oil till golden and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 5

Serve hot.
