Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Sabut Moong ki Kadhi Recipe

  • Whole green gram (sabut moong) soaked overnight and drained 1 1/2 cups

  • Buttermilk 2 1/2 cups

  • Besan 2 tablespoons

  • Oil 1 tablespoon

  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Fenugreek seeds 1/2 teaspoon

  • Asafoetida 1 pinch

  • Curry leaves 4-5

  • Garlic paste 1 teaspoon

  • Small onion finely chopped 1

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Red chilli powder 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Coriander powder 1 teaspoon

  • Dried fenugreek leaves (kasuri methi) 1 teaspoon


Step 1

Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves and garlic paste, mix and sauté till lightly browned.

Step 2

Add onion, mix and sauté till golden brown. Add green grams, turmeric powder, salt, red chilli powder, coriander powder, mix well, cover and cook for 2 minutes.

Step 3

Take buttermilk in a bowl, add besan, whisk well till no lumps remain.

Step 4

Pour this mixture into the pan, keep stirring and cook till the mixture comes to a boil.

Step 5

Add dried fenugreek leaves, mix well and cook for 1-2 minutes.

Step 6

Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
