Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Tamatar Wali Machchi - SK Khazana Recipe

  • Surmai darnes 5

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Garlic finely chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Ginger finely chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Green chillies finely chopped 2

  • Medium onions finely chopped 4

  • Tomato puree 2 1/2 cups

  • Red chilli paste 1 tablespoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Tamarind pulp 1/2 tablespoon

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Steamed rice to serve

Method

Step 1

Heat oil in a non-stick deep pan, add garlic, ginger and green chillies and sauté till fragrant.

Step 2

Add onions, mix well and saute till golden brown. Add tomato puree and red chilli paste, mix well. Cook till the oil separates. Add salt and mix well.

Step 3

Add chilli powder and turmeric powder, mix well. Add fish darnes and mix well. Cover and cook for 5-10 minutes.

Step 4

Add coriander leaves and mix well. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve with rice.
