Available in various types, shapes and sizes, these edible fungi (purely vegetarian!) are a great way to glam-up your dishes. Talking about the types, there are – button, enoki, morel, oyster, shiitake, porcini, chanterelle and portabella. Buy the ones with a firm texture and even colour with tightly-closed caps. If the gills are showing, it is an indication of age and they are probably past their prime.

Ingredients for Tawa Mushrooms - SK Khazana Recipe

  • Button mushrooms halOilved 8-10

  • Oil 1 tablespoon

  • Butter 1 tablespo to garnish

  • Medium onion finely chopped 1

  • Salt to taste

  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Carom seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Coriander powder 1 teaspoon

  • Medium tomato finely chopped 1

  • Green chillies finely chopped 2

  • Small green capsicum finely chopped 1

  • Pav bhaji masala 1 tablespoon

  • Lemon slices to garnish

  • Pavs 2 to serve

  • Medium onion quartered 1


Step 1

Heat oil on a non-stick tawa, add 1 tablespoon butter and let it melt. Add onions and sauté till translucent.

Step 2

Add salt and mix well. Add cumin seeds and carom seeds, mix well and sauté for 2-3 minutes.

Step 3

Add turmeric powder, chilli powder and coriander powder and mix well. Add tomato, mix and sauté till the tomato becomes pulpy.

Step 4

Add green chillies, mix well and sauté for 2-3 minutes. Add green capsicum, mix well and sauté for 2-3 minutes.

Step 5

Add 1 teaspoon butter and mix till it melts. Add pav bhaji masala and mix well. Sprinkle some water and mash everything on the tawa with a masher and sauté for 2-3 minutes.

Step 6

Add mushrooms, mix well and sauté till mushrooms are cooked.

Step 7

Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with some butter and lemon slices and serve hot with pav and onions.
