Indian cuisine comprises of a number of regional cuisines.  The diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines differ from each other mainly due to the use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Tuna Thoran Recipe

  • Tuna Fish cut into 1/2 inch pieces 500 grams

  • Coconut 3 teaspoons

  • Coriander powder 3 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Coconut grated 1 cup

  • Oil 3 tablespoons

  • Mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoon

  • Dry red chilies 2

  • Curry leaves 4-5

  • Onion 1 medium

  • Green chilli 2-3

  • Salt to taste


Step 1

Heat one tablespoon oil in a non stick pan add red chilli powder, coriander powder and tumeric powder together.

Step 2

Add grated coconut and saute for two minutes. Remove and cool.

Step 3

Coarsely grind the above adding curry leaves. Keep aside.

Step 4

Heat two tablespoon oil in a non stick pan add mustard seeds, dry red chillies and curry leaves and saute for one minute.

Step 5

Add onions and saute till light brown.

Step 6

Add green chillies, coconut masala, tuna, salt and half cup water and let it simmer till fish is cooked.
