Urulai Kizhangu Podimas

Ingredients 

  • 4 medium potatoes, boiled and peeled
  • 6-8 curry leaves
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • 1 inch ginger piece 
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon split black gram skinless (dhuli urad dal)
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • 1-2 dried red chillies, broken
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander leaves 
  • 4-6 tablespoons oil
  • 2 tablespoons scraped fresh coconut

Method

  1. Heat oil in a non stick pan. Finely chop green chillies and ginger. Add mustard seeds to the oil.
  2. When they splutter, add dhuli urad dal, asafoetida and red chillies and saute.
  3. Add ginger and green chillies and saute.
  4. Mash potatoes and add to the pan and mix well. Add 3-4 tbsps water and mix.
  5. Add lemon juice and mix. Add salt, coriander leaves, curry leaves and mix.
  6. Cook for some time. Add coconut and mix. Serve hot.
