Ingredients list for Cabbage Rolls in Tomato Gravy

  • 8 Cabbage leaves
  • 3 medium Tomatoes
  • 1½ tablespoons Oil
  • 2 teaspoons Garlic paste
  • 2 teaspoons Ginger paste
  • 2-3 Carrots parboiled and cut into small dices
  • 1 large Potato boiled and peeled
  • 1¼ teaspoons Turmeric powder
  • 2½ teaspoons Cumin powder
  • 2½ teaspoons Coriander powder
  • 1½ teaspoons Red chilli powder
  • ¼ cup Green peas blanched
  • to taste Salt
  • 2 medium Onions
  • teaspoons Butter 2 dollops + 1½
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh coriander leaves chopped

Method

  1. Heat ½ tablespoon oil in a non-stick pan. Add 1 teaspoon garlic paste and saute for ½ minute. Add 1 teaspoon ginger paste, mix and saute for a minute.
  2. Add carrot, mix well and cook for a minute.
  3. Roughly chop potatoes and add, mix well and cook for a minute.
  4. Add ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon cumin powder, 1½ teaspoons coriander powder and 1 teaspoon red chilli powder. Mix well and cook.
  5. Add little water, green peas, mix well and cook for a minute.
  6. Add salt, mix well and cook on low heat for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature.
  7. Roughly chop onions and tomatoes and place in a grinder jar. Grind to a smooth paste.
  8. To make gravy, heat remaining oil in a deep non-stick pan. Add ground paste, mix and cook till the oil separates from the paste.
  9. Add remaining garlic paste and ginger paste, mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  10. Add remaining turmeric powder, mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  11. Place a cabbage leaf on the worktop. Put spoonful of cooked vegetable mixture on one side, fold and roll tightly. Trim the edges and prepare the remaining rolls similarly.
  12. Add remaining red chilli powder, coriander powder and cumin powder to the gravy, mix well and cook for a minute.
  13. Add 2 dollops of butter and salt, mix well and cook for 2 minutes. Add sufficient water and stir to mix.
  14. Add chopped coriander and mix well. Simmer for 5 minutes. Switch off heat and set aside.
  15. Heat 1½ teaspoons butter on a non-stick tawa. Place the cabbage rolls on it and cook on each side for a minute or till it turns golden.
  16. Pour gravy on a serving platter and place the cabbage rolls on top. Serve immediately.
