Cream and Onion Chakli Sticks A spiral shaped deep-fried savoury snack that is very popular all over Maharashtra and Karnataka. Chakli can be made in various combinations and here we have used some western ingredients to give it a unique flavour This recipe has featured on the show Khanakhazana. By Sanjeev Kapoor 25 Mar 2021 in Recipes Course New Update Main Ingredients Onion powder, Milk powder Cuisine Fusion Course Snacks and Starters Prep Time 16-20 minutes Cook time 21-25 minutes Serve 4 Taste Mild Level of Cooking Moderate Others Veg Ingredients 2 teaspoons onion powder 1 tablespoon milk powder 1 tablespoon parmesan cheese powder Salt to taste 2 tablespoons butter ¾ cup semolina ⅓ cup urad dal ½ cup rice flour Oil to deep-fry ¼ cup chopped spring onion greens A pinch of powdered sugar Method Heat 1 cup water in a non-stick pan, add salt and butter, mix till butter melts. Add semolina, mix well, cook till mixture thickens. Transfer into a bowl and cool down. Dry roast urad dal in another non-stick pan for 5-6 minutes. Cool and grind to fine powder. Mix rice flour and urad dal flour with semolina mixture, add 1 cup water, spring onion greens and knead into stiff dough. Mix milk powder, parmesan cheese powder, salt, onion powder and powdered sugar in another bowl. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai. Grease a chakli press with some oil, put a portion of dough into it, press out sticks on a butter paper. Slide in a few chakli sticks at a time, into hot oil, deep-fry till light golden and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper. Sprinkle milk powder mixture over the sticks, toss well and let them cool down.
