Goan Mussel Pulao

Ingredients list for Goan Mussel Pulao

  • 1/2 cup Mussels (tisre) shelled
  • 1 1/2 cups Rice soaked for an hour
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • 1/2 inch Cinnamon
  • 3-4 Cloves
  • 4-5 Black peppercorns
  • 1 medium Onion chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic-ginger-green chilli paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon Sunday masala
  • 1 medium Tomato chopped
  • to taste Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh coriander leaves chopped

Method

  1. Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add cinnamon, cloves and peppercorns and sauté for a minute. Add onion, mix and sauté for a minute.
  2. Add ginger-garlic-green chilli paste, mix and cook for a 30 seconds. Add rice, mix and cook for a minute.
  3. Add mussels, mix and sauté for a minute. Reduce heat, add turmeric powder, chilli powder and Sunday masala and mix well.
  4. Add tomato and mix well. Add salt, mix and cook on high heat for 30 seconds. Add 3 cups hot water, mix, cover and cook for 8-10 minutes. Add chopped coriander and mix well.
  5. Serve hot garnished with a mint sprig and lemon slice.
