Be a kid or a teenage or an adult or an oldie, chicken lovers trend all over the world at all times! One meat that is a favourite of all beyond belief! When cooked, it can be presented in many guises. Sauté it, fry it, toss it, bake it, steam it – eat it the way you want to. Whatever its form may be upon being cooked, its flavour may change but its flesh remains high in protein, low in fat and can be digested easily.

Ingredients for Nilgiri Style Chicken-Cook Smart Recipe

  • Chicken cut into medium sized pieces on the bone 750 grams

  • Medium onions peeled 2

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Cloves 4-5

  • Ginger-garlic paste 1 tablespoon

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Coriander powder 1 tablespoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Yogurt 6 tablespoons

  • Red capsicums cut into thin strips for garnish

  • Ginger cut into thin strips for garnish

  • For paste

  • Spinach blanched 1 bunch

  • Fresh mint leaves roughly chopped 1/2 bunch

  • Fresh coriander leaves roughly chopped 1/2 bunch

  • Green chillies roughly chopped 2

  • Fennel seeds (saunf) 1 teaspoon

  • Fresh coconut scraped 1 cup

Method

Step 1

Finely chop onions.

Step 2

Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add cloves and onions and saute till translucent.

Step 3

Grind together spinach, mint leaves, coriander leaves, green chillies, fennel seeds and coconut with a little water to a fine paste.

Step 4

Add ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder and coriander powder, mix and saute for 2 minutes. Add chicken and salt and mix well. Cover and cook for 5-6 minutes for till the chicken begins to change colour.

Step 5

Add the ground paste and mix well.

Step 6

Add yogurt and mix well. Cover and cook on medium heat for 10-15 minutes or till the chicken is completely cooked. Take the pan off the heat and let the chicken remain covered for a few minutes.

Step 7

Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot garnished with red capsicum and ginger strips.
