Just when you thought that green peas are only used to add that extra punch to your savoury dishes, try a rich, creamy matar ki kheer to satiate your sweet buds too!

Ingredients for Pattani Sundal Recipe

  • Green peas boiled 1 cup

  • Split black gram skinless (dhuli urad dal) 1 teaspoon

  • Mustard seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Oil 1 tablespoon

  • Cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon

  • Dried red chillies broken 2

  • Asafoetida a pinch

  • Curry leaves 8-10

  • Ginger chopped 1/2 inch piece

  • Garlic chopped 4-5 cloves

  • Green chillies chopped 2

  • Onion chopped 1 small

  • Salt to taste

  • Raw mango chopped 1/4 cup

  • Fresh coconut chopped 1/4 cup

  • Lemon juice 1 tablespoon

Method

Step 1

Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add mustard seeds and allow them to splutter. Add urad dal, cumin seeds, red chillies, asafoetida and curry leaves and mix.

Step 2

Add ginger, garlic, green chillies and onions and sauté lightly. Add green peas and mix well. Add salt and 1 tbsp water and cook on high heat.

Step 3

Add raw mango and coconut and mix. Remove the pan from heat and add lemon juice. Mix well and serve hot.
