Relish a salad platter of thinly sliced tomatoes, with chunks of mozzarella, a drizzle of olive oil, sliced black olives and basil leaves. Arrange in concentric circles on a nice white plate. The word relish is just perfect here. And not just salads, for all those rich and good-looking Indian preps, the very famous onion-tomato masala is a must! Then, there are soups, beverages (call for the Bloody Mary!), snacks and even desserts made of these plump red things. Even the green ones are in use today. Must say, terrific tomatoes!

Ingredients for Pizza Sauce Recipe

  • Fresh tomato puree 1 cup

  • Olive oil 1 tablespoon

  • Garlic , finely chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Onion , finely chopped 1 medium

  • Salt to taste

  • Black peppercorns , crushed to taste

  • Paprika 1 teaspoon

  • Red chilli flakes 1 teaspoon

  • Tomato ketchup 1 tablespoon

  • Fresh basil leaves 3-4 + to garnish

  • Pizza bases 2

  • Toppings of your ch

  • Mozzarella cheese as required

Method

Step 1

Heat olive oil in a non-stick pan, add garlic and sauté for 2 minutes.

Step 2

Add onion, mix and sauté till golden brown. Add tomato puree, mix and saute for a minute. Add salt and peppercorn and mix well. Add 1 cup water and mix, and cook for a minute.

Step 3

Add paprika and red chilli flakes and mix well. Add tomato ketchup, mix and sauté on medium heat for 5-7 minutes. Tear and add basil leaves and mix well. Remove the pan from heat and let the sauce cool.

Step 4

Preheat the oven to 180º C.

Step 5

Keep the pizza base on a baking tray, spread a ladleful of pizza sauce on it. Top with topping of your choice and mozzarella cheese. Bake for 5 minutes. Make another pizza similarly.

Step 6

Serve the sauce as a dip with pizza.
