Prawn Balchao A very popular Goan dish – prawns cooked in a spicy and flavourful masala, a must try. By Sanjeev Kapoor 02 Apr 2021 in Recipes Course New Update Prawn Balchao Main Ingredients Medium prawns, Salt Cuisine Goan Course Pickles, Jams and Chutneys Prep Time 16-20 minutes Cook time 21-25 minutes Serve 4 Taste Tangy Level of Cooking Easy Others Non Veg Ingredients 20-25 medium prawns shelled, deveined and washed Salt to taste 2 one-inch sticks cinnamon 5-6 cloves 1 teaspoon cumin seeds 1 teaspoon mustard seeds 7-8 cloves garlic chopped 1 inch ginger chopped 6-8 dried red chillies soaked 1/2 cup malt vinegar 1/2 cup oil 2 medium onions finely chopped 1 large tomato chopped 2 teaspoons sugar Method Take prawns in a bowl, add salt and mix well. Put cinnamon in a mixer jar, add cloves, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, garlic, ginger, red chillies and malt vinegar and grind to a fine paste. Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add prawns and sauté till they turn light pink. Remove them on a plate. Add onions to the oil remaining in the pan and sauté till translucent. Add tomato and mix well. Add salt, mix and saute till tomato turns pulpy. Add the paste, mix well and saute till oil separates. Add prawns and sugar, mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
