Batani Usli A simple South Indian dish made with green peas, which is called batani in Kannada. Cook it with fresh green peas and some simple ingredients that are easily available in most homes. Result is a delicious dish that goes well with pooris to make a wholesome breakfast. By Sanjeev Kapoor 16 Oct 2024 in Recipes Main Course Vegetarian New Update Main ingredients Green peas, Mustard seeds, Split skinless black grams, Splilt Bengal grams, Dried red chillies, Green chilli, Curry leaves, Asafoetida, Ginger, Scraped fresh coconut, Fresh coriander leaves Cuisine Karnatak Course Main course vegetarian Prep time 5-10 minutes Cook time 10-15 minutes Serve 4 Taste Savoury Level of cooking Easy Others Vegetarian Ingredients 2 cups shelled green peas 2 tablespoons oil ½ teaspoon mustard seeds ½ teaspoon split skinless black gram (dhuli urad dal) ½ teaspoon split Bengal gram (chana dal) 3 dried red chillies 1 green chilli, slit 10-12 curry leaves ½ teaspoon asafoetida (hing) 1 teaspoon grated ginger ½ teaspoon turmeric powder Salt to taste 2 tablespoons scraped fresh coconut 2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander leaves Method Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add split skinless black gram, split Bengal gram, dried red chillies, green chilli, curry leaves and asafoetida and mix well. Add ginger and mix well. Add turmeric powder and mix. Add green peas and salt and mix till well combined. Add ¼ cup water, mix and cook for 8-10 minutes. Add coconut and coriander leaves and mix well.
