By Sanjeev Kapoor 01 Apr 2024 in Recipes Pickle Jams Chutneys New Update Thakkali Oorugai Main ingredients Tomatoes, Dried red chillies, Tamarind pulp Cuisine South Indian Course Pickles Prep time 5-10 minutes Cook time 10-15 minutes Serve 4 Taste Spicy Level of cooking Easy Others Veg Ingredients · 4 medium tomatoes · 3 tbsps sesame oil · ½ tsp fenugreek seeds · 1 tsp mustard seeds · 8-10 garlic cloves · 3 green chillies, slit · 4 dried red chillies · Sea salt to taste · 2 tbsps tamarind pulp · 1 tsp turmeric powder · 1½ tbsps red chilli powder · 1 sprig of curry leaves · Steamed rice for serving Method Roughly slice the tomatoes. Heat sesame oil in an earthenware pot, add fenugreek seeds and mustard seeds and once the mustard seeds start to splutter, add garlic, green chillies and dried red chillies and mix well. Sauté for a few seconds. Add tomatoes andsea salt and mix well. Cook on medium heat for 6-8 minutes or till tomatoes are pulpy. Add tamarind pulp, turmeric powder and red chilli powder and mix well. Add curry leaves and mix. Cook for 2-3 minutes. Transfer into a serving bowl and allow to cool.
