Why is it that when you are stuck at “what should we cook today” the answer is always “make some aloo!” Potatoes are like this…extremely popular and have multipurpose usage.

And did you always think that eating a potato will make you fat?
Well, don’t – it is a surprising source of vitamin C and provides useful amounts of starch, thiamine and niacin and around a hundred grams will provide about eighty calories.

Ingredients for Aloo Masala Chaat - SK Khazana Recipe

  • Potatoes boiled and peeled 8 medium

  • Oil 4 tablespoons

  • Crushed black peppercorns to taste

  • Salt to taste

  • coriander leaves chopped for garnish

  • Red chilli powder to taste

  • Yogurt 4-8 tablespoons

  • Methi khakra 4-8

  • Onion finely chopped 4 tablespoons

  • Tomatoes finely chopped 4 tablespoons

  • Red chilli Garlic Chutney as required

  • Green chutney as required

  • Date and tamarind chutney as required

  • Boondi for garnish


Step 1

For each portion, cut each of 2 potatoes into 3 thick pieces. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a non-stick pan, place the potato pieces in the pan and toss well. Cook till golden and crispy, turning occasionally.

Step 2

Sprinkle some crushed black peppercorns, some salt, some coriander leaves and some red chilli powder and toss well.

Step 3

Transfer the potato pieces on a serving plate, drizzle yogurt on top, crush 1-2 methi khakras and put them over the yogurt. Sprinkle 1 tbsp onion, 1 tbsp tomato and drizzle red chilli-garlic chutney, green chutney and sweet tamarind chutney.

Step 4

Garnish with crushed khara boondi and coriander leaves and serve immediately.
