Besides the fact that seafood is really delicious and light on the tummy it offers a great deal of health benefits too. Great skin, a healthy heart and sharper brain are amongst a few.

Ingredients for Ambul Thiyal Recipe

  • Shark fish cut into1 inch pieces 400 grams

  • Gorake peeled 1 inch

  • Gorake (looks like kokum but not similar) 15-18

  • Green chilli 1

  • Cinnamon 1 inch sticks

  • Black peppercorns 1 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 2 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Curry leaves 10-12

  • Fresh coriander sprigs 8-10

  • Banana leaf cut into 2 pieces ½

Method

Step 1

Heat 1 cup water in a non-stick pan, add gorake and mix well. Cook till the gorake becomes soft. Drain and reserve the water in a bowl.

Step 2

Slice ginger, roughly chop green chilli and break cinnamon stick and put them in a mixer jar. Add cooked gorake and ½ cup water and grind to a smooth paste.

Step 3

Place banana leaf pieces in a clay pot.

Step 4

Put the ground paste into the bowl with gorake water, add fish pieces and mix well. Add salt and half the curry leaves. Roughly chop remaining curry leaves and add along with 2-3 tbsps water and mix well.

Step 5

Put the fish into the clay pot over banana leaf pieces, roughly tear and place coriander sprigs over it.

Step 6

Place the clay pot on heat and cover with its lid. Cook till the fish is done.

Step 7

Serve hot.
