History of Indian cuisine dates back to nearly 5,000-years ago when various groups and cultures interacted with India that led to a diversity of flavours and regional cuisines.
Indian cuisine comprises of a number of regional cuisines.  The diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines differ from each other mainly due to the use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Bread Upma- YT Recipe

  • Pavs broken into pieces 8

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Mustard seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Asafoetida (hing) 1/4 teaspoon

  • Curry leaves 16-20

  • Green chillies cut into pieces 2

  • Medium onions finely chopped 2

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Sugar 1/ teaspoon

  • Fresh coriander sprig for garnish

Method

Step 1

Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add cumin seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves, green chillies and onions. Mix and sauté till onions turn translucent.

Step 2

Add turmeric powder, salt and sugar and mix well. Add ¼ cup water and mix.

Step 3

Add pav pieces, mix well, cover and cook for 5 minutes.

Step 4

Garnish with coriander sprig and serve hot.
