Ingredients list for CABBAGE CHANA DAL

  • grams Cabbage shredded
  • tablespoons Chana Dal soaked
  • tablespoons Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • a pinch Asafoetida
  • 6-8 Curry leaves
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 2 teaspoons Coriander-cumin powder
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh coconut scraped

Method

  1. Heat oil in a non-stick pan and add mustard seeds. Once they start to splutter, add cumin seeds.
  2. Once cumin seeds start to change colour, add asafetida and curry leaves and sauté for a few seconds.
  3. Add split Bengal grams and sauté for two to three minutes.
  4. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and coriander-cumin powder and mix well.
  5. Add cabbage and mix well. Lower the heat and cook for two to three minutes.
  6. Add salt and sugar and mix well.
  7. Cover and cook till cabbage and the grams are completely cooked.
  8. Serve hot garnished with coconut.
