Super healthy, cabbage goes a long way back. In ancient times, the Greeks treated it as a special food for its many medicinal properties. There are tales about raw cabbage juice being a standard treatment for a nasty hangover! Salads, dals, sabzis, pickles and even raitas, cabbage does full justice to each preparation. Ingredients for Cabbage Chana Dal With Shrimps Recipe

  • Cabbage 1/2 medium

  • Split Bengal Gram soaked 1/2 cup

  • Shrimps 1/4 cup

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Onion 1 medium

  • Mustard seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Asafoetida 1/4 teaspoon

  • Curry leaves 10-12

  • Dried red chillies broken 4

  • Salt to taste

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Scraped coconut 2 tablespoons

  • Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon

  • Green chillies 2

Method

Step 1

Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Chop onion in a chopper. Add mustard seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves, red chillies and onion and saute for 1 minute.

Step 2

Drain and add chana dal and mix. Chop cabbage roughly and add. Add salt, turmeric powder and saute, stirring, for a while.Add shrimps, coconut, garam masala powder and stir well.

Step 3

Slit green chillies and add along with 2 tbsps water, cover the cooker and cook under pressure on medium heat for 5 minutes.Switch off heat and let it cook in the steam for some time. Open the lid and serve hot.
