Ingredients
- 1 medium bottle gourd (lauki/doodhi), peeled and cut into cubes
- ½ cup scraped fresh coconut
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- ¼ teaspoon fenugreek seeds (methi dana)
- 1-2 green chillies, chopped
- A pinch of asafoetida
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- Salt to taste
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Crushed black peppercorns to taste
Method
- Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds and let them splutter.
- Add green chillies, asafoetida and bottle gourd and mix well. Add onion and sauté for a minute.
- Add some water, mix, cover and cook on low heat for 5 minutes.
- Add salt and little water, mix, cover and cook for 2 minutes. Add sugar, crushed peppercorns, coconut and some water, mix, cover and cook for a minute.
- Serve hot.
