Along with tea, after school or at a birthday party – snacks are every foodie’s ultimate favourite. Healthy snacking is the best way to satisfy your munchies without the worry of to many added calories.

Ingredients for Kathal Ke Shaami Recipe

  • Raw jackfruit 500 grams

  • Split bengal gram

  • Split Bengal gram (chana dal) soaked 3/4 cup

  • Oil 2 tablespo

  • Black cardamoms 2

  • Green cardamoms 4

  • Cloves 3

  • Ginger chopped 1 inch piece

  • Green chillies chopped 3

  • Salt to taste

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Onion chopped 1 medium

  • Chaat masala to taste

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped 1/4 cup


Step 1

Apply oil to a knife and peel the jackfruit. Further cut it into two-inch cubes.

Step 2

Heat oil in a pan. Add black cardamoms, green cardamoms, cloves, ginger, green chillies and sauté for a minute. Add jackfruit cubes, chana dal and mix. Add salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and just sufficient water. When the mixture comes to a boil, reduce heat and cover.

Step 3

Cook till both jackfruit and chana dal are soft. Drain excess water.

Step 4

Put the mixture in a blender and grind to make a paste, without adding any moisture. Add onions, chaat masala, coriander leaves and grind again.

Step 5

Transfer the mixture into a bowl. Grease your palms with oil, take a little mixture and shape into tikkis.

Step 6

Heat sufficient oil in a kadai and deep fry the tikkis till golden. Drain and place on an absorbent paper.

Step 7

Serve hot with green chutney.
