You might be picking out these emerald hued little jewels from your food. But, wait, before you do that anymore! As these are a good source of fibre and potassium, which keeps all of our body cells functioning properly. Just when you thought that green peas are only used to add that extra punch to your savoury dishes, try a rich, creamy matar ki kheer to satiate your sweet buds too!

Ingredients for Matar Samosa Recipe

  • Fresh green peas 1 cup

  • Ready made samosa dough roundels halved 150 grams

  • Ghee 1 teaspoon

  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Green chillies chopped 1-2

  • Ginger finely chopped 1 inch

  • Small onion finely chopped 1

  • Salt to taste

  • Garam masala powder 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Oil to deep fry

  • Green chutney to serve

  • Sweet tamarind chutney to serve

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped to garnish

Method

Step 1

Heat ghee in a non-stick pan, add cumin seeds, sauté till the colour changes. Add green chillies and ginger, mix and sauté for 1 minute.

Step 2

Add onion, mix and sauté onion is till translucent. Add fresh green peas and mix well. Add 3-4 tbsps water and mix well. Add salt and garam masala powder, mix well, cover and cook for 5 minutes or till the peas are cooked.

Step 3

Mash the cooked mixture with a masher and cook for a minute. Take it off the heat and set aside to cool.

Step 4

Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.

Step 5

Apply a little water on the straight edge, shape it into a cone and press lightly to seal. Stuff the cone with some pea mixture and seal the top with a little more water to shape it like a samosa. Make more samosas similarly.

Step 6

Slide the samosas into hot oil and deep-fry till golden brown and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 7

Pour some green chutney and sweet tamarind chutney in each of serving plates and place a samosa over the chutneys. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
