Why is it that when you are stuck at “what should we cook today” the answer is always “make some aloo!” Potatoes are like this…extremely popular and have multipurpose usage.

And did you always think that eating a potato will make you fat?
Well, don’t – it is a surprising source of vitamin C and provides useful amounts of starch, thiamine and niacin and around a hundred grams will provide about eighty calories.

Ingredients for Potato Capsicum Fry Recipe

  • Potato peeled and diced 500 grams

  • Capsicum seeded and diced 1 medium

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil 3 tablespoons

  • Cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon

  • Onions diced 3 medium

  • Ginger deseed and julienne 1 inch piece

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Coriander powder 1 teaspoon

  • Garam masala powder 1/2 teaspoon


Step 1

Boil water in a deep pan. Add half of the turmeric powder, salt and add potatoes.

Step 2

Cook till potatoes are done. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

Heat oil in a non stick pan. Add cumin seeds.

Step 4

Once they crackle, add onions, ginger, garlic and capsicum and sauté till onions are golden brown.

Step 5

Add potatoes and sauté for two minutes.

Step 6

Add remaining turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, salt, garam masala and mix well.

Step 7

Cover and cook for seven to eight minutes.

Step 8

Serve hot with roti and parantha.
