Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Puffed Rice Upma-SK Khazana Recipe

  • Puffed rice (kurmura) 3 cups

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Mustard seeds 2 teaspoons

  • Split Bengal gram (chana dal) 1 1/2 tablespoons

  • Curry leaves 10-15

  • Green chillies chopped 2-3

  • Raw peanuts 2 tablespoons

  • Medium onions finely chopped 2

  • Green peas 1/2 cup

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 3/4 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Put puffed rice in a sieve and pour sufficient water over. Once the water drains put the puffed rice in a bowl and set aside.

Step 2

Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add mustard seeds and let the seeds splutter.

Step 3

Add Bengal gram, curry leaves and green chillies, mix and sauté well. Add peanuts and sauté well.

Step 4

Add onion, mix and sauté till onion turns translucent.

Step 5

Add green peas and mix. Add turmeric powder and chilli powder, mix well and cook for 1-2 minutes.

Step 6

Add some water and mix. Add puffed rice and mix. Add salt, mix and cook for a minute.

Step 7

Serve hot.
