History of Indian cuisine dates back to nearly 5,000-years ago when various groups and cultures interacted with India that led to a diversity of flavours and regional cuisines.
Indian cuisine comprises of a number of regional cuisines.  The diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines differ from each other mainly due to the use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Quick Oatmeal Uttapam Recipe

  • Oats 1 cup

  • Yogurt 1/2 cup

  • Asafoetida a pinch

  • Yogurt 1 cup

  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Soda bicarbonate a pinch

  • Ginger finely chopped 1 inch pie

  • Onion finely chopped 1 medium

  • Green capsicum finely chopped 1/4 medium

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil for cookin

  • Spring onion greens trimmed 2-3 stalks

Method

Step 1

Grind together oats, suji and asafoetida and transfer into a bowl.

Step 2

Add yogurt, cumin seeds, red chilli powder, soda, ginger and water as required to make a thick batter.

Step 3

Keep aside for 10-15 minutes. Add onion, green capsicum and salt and mix well.

Step 4

Heat a non stick tawa. Spread a little oil with a tissue paper.Spread a ladleful of the batter on the tawa and drizzle a little oil around it.

Step 5

When the underside is golden, flip and cook on the other side similarly.

Step 6

Arrange spring onion greens on a serving plate and transfer the uttapams on it. Serve hot.
