Shallow-Fried Fish With Oatmeal Recipe Card

Indian cuisine comprises of a number of regional cuisines.  The diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines differ from each other mainly due to the use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Shallow-Fried Fish With Oatmeal Recipe

  • Fish fillet boneless 2

  • Oatmeal 1 cup

  • Lemon juice 2 tablespoons

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Ginger-garlic paste 1 teaspoon

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoons

  • Curry leaves 12-15

  • Citric acid a pinch

  • Sugar 1 teaspoon


Step 1

Cut fish fillets at a slant into big chunks. Keep them on a plate and sprinkle lemon juice, half the turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt, ginger-garlic paste and mix well.

Step 2

Let them marinate for 15 minutes. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a non-stick pan, add mustard seeds and allow them to splutter. Add curry leaves and oatmeal and cook on low heat till crisp.

Step 3

Add a little salt and citric acid, sugar, remaining turmeric powder and mix well. Transfer onto a plate and set aside.

Step 4

Heat 1 tbsp oil in a non-stick grill pan. Place fish pieces on it and cook, turning sides a few times for even cooking, till both sides are golden.

Step 5

Place fish pieces on oatmeal mixture and cover them well with it. Arrange fish pieces on a serving platter, sprinkle extra oatmeal mixture on top and serve hot.
