Why is it that when you are stuck at “what should we cook today” the answer is always “make some aloo!” Potatoes are like this…extremely popular and have multipurpose usage.

And did you always think that eating a potato will make you fat?
Well, don’t – it is a surprising source of vitamin C and provides useful amounts of starch, thiamine and niacin and around a hundred grams will provide about eighty calories.

Ingredients for Tilwale Aloo Tikki Recipe

  • Potatoes 4 large

  • Cottage Cheese 100 grams

  • Fresh coriander leaves a few sprigs

  • Green chillies 2

  • Ginger 2 inch piece

  • Red chilli powder (deghi mirch) 1/2 teaspoon

  • Garam masala powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Bread crumbs 3-4 tablespoons

  • Cornflour/ corn starch 2 teaspoons

  • Salt to taste

  • Sesame seeds (til) 5 tablespoons

  • Oil to deep fry

Method

Step 1

Boil, peel and mash potatoes. Grate paneer and keep aside. Clean, wash and finely chop coriander leaves. Remove stems, wash and finely chop green chillies. Peel, wash and finely chop ginger.

Step 2

In a large bowl, mix the mashed potatoes, grated paneer, red chilli powder, garam masala powder, coriander leaves, green chillies, ginger, breadcrumbs, cornflour and salt.

Step 3

Divide the mixture into sixteen equal portions and shape into flat round thick tikkis. Heat sufficient oil in a kadhai. Coat each tikki with sesame seeds and deep fry in hot oil till golden brown.

Step 4

Drain onto an absorbent paper and serve hot.
