Favourite seafood? Prawns, prawns and more of prawns. A wide variety of small crustaceans, tiny relatives of the lobster, are known as prawns. Prawns are normally translucent when raw but get their distinctive pink or red colour on being cooked. one word of caution – if buying unpeeled prawns, smell for freshness and look for bright, shiny shells that have some spring left in them.

Ingredients for Chinese Popcorn Prawns-SK Khazana Recipe

  • Medium prawns shelled, deveined and roughly chopped 12-16

  • Oul 1 tablespo to deep fry

  • Egg white 1

  • Cornflour 2-3 tablespoons

  • Salt to taste

  • Ginger chopped 1 teaspoon

  • Garlic chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Tomato ketchup 1/2 cup

  • Red chilli flakes 1/2 teaspoon

  • Lemon zest grated 1/4 teaspoon

  • Vinegar 1/2 teaspoon

  • Spring onion greens sliced for garnish


Step 1

Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.

Step 2

Put prawns in a bowl. Add egg white, cornflour and salt and mix well.

Step 3

Deep-fry prawns in hot oil till golden brown. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 4

Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a non-stick pan, add ginger and garlic and sauté till fragrant.

Step 5

Add tomato ketchup, chilli flakes, lemon zest and some water and mix well.

Step 6

Add salt and vinegar, mix well and remove from heat. Transfer the sauce into a serving bowl.

Step 7

Garnish prawn popcorns with spring onion greens and serve hot with the sauce.
