Ingredients for Gavthi Sukha Chicken Recipe

  • Country chicken , cut into 2 inch pieces on the bone 750 grams

  • Onion 1 large

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Ginger , cut into thin strips 1 inch

  • Masala

  • Oil 1 tablespoon

  • Coriander seeds 2 tablespoons

  • Black peppercorns 10-15

  • Cinnamon 1 inch

  • Cloves 6-8

  • Ginger 1 inch

  • Garlic 4-5 cloves

  • Dried coconut slices , fried 1/2 cup

  • Green chillies 2-3

Method

Step 1

Finely slice onion. Heat oil in a deep non-stick pan, add ¾ of the sliced onion and chicken, mix well and sauté on high heat for 1 minute, cover and cook for 4-5 minutes.

Step 2

Add turmeric powder, mix well and cover and cook on medium heat for 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 3

Meanwhile to make the masala, heat oil in a shallow non-stick pan, add remaining onion, coriander seeds, black peppercorns, cinnamon and cloves, mix and sauté till fragrant and golden. Take the pan off the heat.

Step 4

Finely slice ginger and put into a bender jar, add garlic cloves, dried coconut slices, broken green chillies, onion-spice mixture and sufficient water and blend into a fine paste.

Step 5

Add this paste to the chicken mixture and mix well. Adjust the salt and mix well. Cover and cook till the chicken is cooked completely.

Step 6

Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with ginger strips and serve hot.
