Be a kid or a teenage or an adult or an oldie, chicken lovers trend all over the world at all times! One meat that is a favourite of all beyond belief! When cooked, it can be presented in many guises. Sauté it, fry it, toss it, bake it, steam it – eat it the way you want to. Whatever its form may be upon being cooked, its flavour may change but its flesh remains high in protein, low in fat and can be digested easily.

Ingredients for Sweet and Sour Chicken Recipe

  • Boneless chicken , cut into 1 inch pieces 450 grams

  • Oil 1 tbsp + to deep fry

  • Egg 1

  • Cornflour 1 tablespoon

  • Refined flour (maida) 1 tablespoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Black peppercorns , crushed to taste

  • Garlic , finely chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Ginger , finely chopped 1 inch

  • Spring onion bulbs , copped 3-4

  • Tomato ketchup 2 tablespoons

  • Soy sauce 1 teaspoon

  • Chicken stock 1 cup

  • Sugar 1 teaspoon

  • Cornflour slurry 1 tablespoon

  • Vinegar 2 tablespoons

  • Spring onion greens , chopped 1 tbsp + to garnish

Method

Step 1

Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.

Step 2

Take chicken pieces in a bowl, add egg and mix. Add cornflour, refined flour, salt and crushed peppercorns and mix well.

Step 3

Slide the chicken pieces into hot oil and deep-fry till golden brown and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 4

Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a non-stick pan. Add garlic and ginger, mix and sauté till the raw smells disappear.

Step 5

Add spring onion bulbs, mix and sauté for 1 minute. Add tomato ketchup and mix. Add soy sauce and chicken stock, mix and cook for 1 minute.

Step 6

Add sugar, salt and crushed black peppercorns and mix. Add cornflour slurry, mix and cook till the mixture thickens.

Step 7

Add vinegar and mix. Add fried chicken pieces, mix and cook for 1-2 minutes. Add 1 tablespoon spring onion greens and mix well.

Step 8

Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with spring onion greens and serve hot.
