Bread Fruit Stir Fry Breadfruit is a nutrient dense fruit which is rich in carbohydrates, fiber, essential vitamins and minerals. In India bread fruit is widely eaten in South India. The first thing that comes to mind at the mention of bread fruit is fritters. But you can cook other dishes too with this fruit. Ideally it should be used before it ripens. By Sanjeev Kapoor 20 Apr 2024 in Recipes Main Course Vegetarian New Update Bread Fruit Stir Fry Main ingredients Breadfruit (neer phanas), Mustard seeds, Cumin seeds, Split skinless black grams, Dried red chillies, Green chillies, Onion, Tomato, Curry leaves Cuisine South Indian Course Main course vegetarian Prep time 5-10 minutes Cook time 20-25 minutes Serve 4 Taste Savoury Level of cooking Easy Others Veg Ingredients 500 grams breadfruit (neer phanas), peeled and cut into 2 inch thick strips 2 tablespoons oil 1 teaspoon mustard seeds 1 teaspoon cumin seeds 1 teaspoon split skinless black gram (dhuli urad dal) 2-3 dried red chillies 2-3 green chillies 1 medium onion, sliced 1 medium tomato, sliced 10-15 curry leaves Salt to taste 1 teaspoon red chilli powder ½ teaspoon turmeric powder 1 tablespoon chopped fresh coriander leaves Method Heat oil in a non-stick wok, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, split skinless black gram and dried red chillies and sauté for 1-2 minutes. Add green chillies, onion and tomato and mix well. Saute for 1-2 minutes. Add curry leaves and salt and mix. Continue to sauté for 1-2 minutes. Add red chilli powder and turmeric powder and mix well. Saute for 1 minute. Add breadfruit and sauté for 1 minute. Cover and cook for 10-12 minutes. Add coriander leaves and mix.
