A comfort food that makes a perfect meal served with steamed rice or pavs. By Sanjeev Kapoor 03 Jul 2024 in Recipes Main Course Vegetarian New Update Green Peas Ussal Main ingredients Shelled green peas, Mustard seeds, Cumin seeds, Onions, Turmeric powder, Goda masala, Fresh coriander leaves, Lemon, Ginger, Garlic, Green chillies, Scraped fresh coconut, Cuisine Maharashtrian Course Main course vegetarian Prep time 15-20 minutes Cook time 20-25 minutes Serve 4 Taste Spicy Level of cooking Easy Others Vegan Ingredients 2 cups shelled fresh green peas 2 tablespoons oil 1 teaspoon mustard seeds 1 teaspoon cumin seeds 2 medium onions, finely chopped Salt to taste ½ teaspoon turmeric powder 1½ teaspoons goda masala 2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander leaves ½ lemon Green paste 1 cup fresh coriander leaves 1 inch ginger, roughly chopped 10-12 garlic cloves 3-4 green chillies ½ cup scraped fresh coconut To serve Pavs Chopped onion as required Lemon wedges as required Method To make green paste, put coriander leaves, ginger, garlic, green chillies, coconut and ½ cup water in a mixer jar and grind to a fine paste. Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds and sauté till the seeds splutter. Add onions and salt, mix and sauté till golden brown. Add green paste, mix and saute for 2-3 minutes. Add green peas and mix well. Add turmeric powder and goda masala, mix well and cook for 1-2 minutes. Stir in 2 cups water, mix and cook till the mixture comes to a boil. Cover with a lid and cook under pressure till 3-4 whistles are released. Open the cooker once the pressure has reduced completely. Add coriander leaves and squeeze the juice of lemon and mix well.
