Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Bajre ke Masaledar Pulao Recipe

  • Pearl Millets soaked in water overnight 2 cups

  • Tomatoes 2 tablespoons

  • Onion 1 large

  • Ginger 1 inch

  • Tomatoes 2 medium

  • Kashmiri red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder a pinch

  • Coriander powder 1 tablespoon

  • Garam masala powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Heat oil in a pressure pan. Roughly chop onion and add to the pan.

Step 2

Cut ginger into thin long strips and roughly chop tomato. Add both to the pan and sauté for 1-2 minutes.

Step 3

Add Kashmiri red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder and salt and sauté for 1-2 minutes.

Step 4

Add pearl millets and sauté for 1-2 minutes. Add 4 cups of water. Close the lid and cook on high heat up to 2 whistles. Lower the heat and cook for 10-12 minutes.

Step 5

Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
