How many times have we thought rice is a blessing? We use it for holy purposes but we also can pressure up a quick pulao or khichdi when hunger pangs are drumming away! This is one grain that is about 98% percent digestible. In India we are familiar with Basmati, Patna or brown rice but it is also available as Italian Rice and Glutinous Rice which is popular in Chinese and Japanese cuisines.

Cook time : 11-15 minutes

Ingredients for Beer Rice Recipe

  • Rice soaked for 20 minutes 1 cup

  • Beer 1 cup

  • Olive oil 3 tablespoons

  • Garlic crushed 2 tablespoons

  • Onion finely chopped 1 medium

  • Paprika powder 1 teaspoon

  • Tomato finely chopped 1 medium

  • Green capsicum cut into cubes ½ medium

  • Green peas boiled ½ cup

  • Salt to taste

  • Chicken stock 1 cup

  • Button mushrooms sliced 6-8

  • Mussels (tisre) 8-10

  • Prawns (medium) shelled and deveined 8-10

  • Chicken sausages sliced 1

  • Green olives pitted and sliced 6-8

Method

Step 1

Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add garlic and sauté till light brown.

Step 2

Add onion and sauté till onion is translucent.

Step 3

Add rice and mix well. Add paprika powder, tomato, capsicum, green peas and salt. Mix well.

Step 4

Add beer, chicken stock, mix and bring to a boil.

Step 5

Add mushrooms and mix well. Add mussels, prawns, sausage and olives, cover and cook on low heat for 5-10 minutes.

Step 6

Serve hot.
