Corn was indigenous to America, but is now grown throughout the world. It is used as a vegetable, briefly boiled or roasted or eaten with butter. And it would also interest you to know that the favourite popcorn, made by popping the small corn kernels, is a wholesome cereal food and is easily digested. Besides this, corn sees its use in various other ways – salads, soups, subzis and even sweets too!

Cook time : 16-20 minutes

Ingredients for Cornflakes Chivda Recipe

  • Corn Flakes 2 cups

  • Cashewnuts 2tbsps + to deep fry

  • Mustard seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Green chillies slit 2

  • Curry leaves 5-6

  • Raisins 20-25

  • Cashewnuts 20-25

  • Turmeric powder 2 teaspoons

  • Red chilli powder 2 teaspoons

  • Salt to taste

  • Sugar 1 tablespoon

  • Roasted peanuts 1/4 cup

  • Roasted chana dal (dalia) 1/4 cup

Method

Step 1

Heat oil in a pan and deep fry cornflakes till crisp but not coloured.

Step 2

Drain on absorbent paper. Heat two tablespoons oil in another pan and add mustard seeds.

Step 3

When they splutter, add green chillies, curry leaves, raisins and cashewnuts and sauté for a minute and take it off the heat.

Step 4

Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt, sugar, peanuts, chana dal and cornflakes and toss.

Step 5

When completely cooled, store in an airtight container in a cool dry place.
