Ingredients list for Crabstick and Drumstick Curry

  • 250 grams Frozen crabsticks
  • 4 Drumsticks scraped and cut into long pieces
  • to taste Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon Oil
  • 2 medium Onions
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 3 Green chillies
  • 16-18 Curry leaves
  • 6 tablespoons Scraped fresh coconut
  • 3-4 Kokum petals

Method

  1. Heat sufficient water in a deep non-stick pan, add drumsticks, salt and ¼ tsp turmeric powder and cook till the drumsticks are soft.
  2. Heat oil in another non-stick pan. Slice onions.
  3. Add mustard seeds to the oil and let them splutter.
  4. Slit green chillies.
  5. Add curry leaves to the oil and sauté for ½ minute. Add onions and sauté till the onions turn soft.
  6. Put 4 tbsps scraped coconut in a grinder jar, add 3-4 tbsps water and grind into a smooth paste.
  7. Add ¼ cup water to the onions and cook for 2 minutes. Add crabsticks, coconut paste and salt and mix well.
  8. Add green chillies, mix well and cook for 3-4 minutes. Add cooked drumsticks along with the liquid, kokum petals and remaining turmeric powder and mix well.
  9. Add remaining scraped coconut and mix well. Cook for 2 minutes.
  10. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
