Dalia with Vegetables

Ingredients 

  • 1½ cups broken wheat (dalia/lapsi), soaked
  • 1 small carrot, grated
  • 1 small green capsicum, seeded chopped
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • ¼ teaspoon mustard seeds
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • 2 green chillies, chopped
  • 15-20 curry leaves
  • 2 dried red chillies, broken into large bits
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • ¼ cup roasted peanuts, crushed
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Method

  1. Heat the oil in a non-stick kadai. Add the mustard seeds, asafoetida, green chillies, curry leaves and red chillies. When the seeds begin to splutter, add the onion and sauté till translucent.
  2. Add the carrot and capsicum and sauté for four to five minutes. Add the broken wheat, turmeric powder, roasted peanuts and salt and mix well.
  3. Add three cups of water, mix, cover and cook till the broken wheat softens.
  4. Add lemon juice and mix well.
  5. Serve hot.
