Ingredients list for Matar aur Mangodi Kadhi

  • 1/2 cup Green peas
  • 1/2 cup Moong mangodi
  • 1 1/2 cups Sour yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons Gram flour (besan)
  • 6 tablespoons Oil
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • a pinch Asafoetida
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Fenugreek seeds (methi dana)
  • 3/4 cloves Garlic
  • 6-8 Curry leaves
  • 8 Dried button red chillies (bor mirchi)

Method

  1. Heat 4 tbsps oil in a non-stick pan. Combine gram flour, yogurt, salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and whisk till smooth. Add 3 cups water and mix well.
  2. Add mangodi to the pan and sauté till golden. Heat 2 tbsps oil in a deep non-stick pan.
  3. Add asafoetida, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds and sauté till lightly browned.
  4. Add finely chopped garlic along with curry leaves and button red chillies. Sauté for ½ minute.
  5. Add yogurt mixture and cook, stirring, till slightly thick. Add green peas and mangodi and cook till they are well done.
  6. Serve hot with steamed rice.
