And did you always think that eating a potato will make you fat?
Well, don’t – it is a surprising source of vitamin C and provides useful amounts of starch, thiamine and niacin and around a hundred grams will provide about eighty calories.

Ingredients for Nundigrog Kelanga Recipe

  • Potatoes to taste

  • Onions 450 grams

  • Onion 1 medium

  • Green chillies 2

  • Oil 1 tablespoon

  • Mustard seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Fenugreek seeds (methi dana) 1/4 teaspoon

  • Coriander seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder 1/4

  • Tamarind pulp 1 tablespoon

Method

Step 1

Peel and wash potatoes. Boil them in salted water until soft, then mash them. Peel, wash onion and chop coarsely.

Step 2

Remove stems, wash, slit, de-seed and finely chop green chillies. Heat oil and add mustard seeds. When they start crackling add fenugreek seeds and coriander seeds.

Step 3

Add onions, green chillies and turmeric powder and fry until soft and brown. Pour in tamarind pulp and simmer for five minutes. Finally stir in the mashed potatoes and add salt. Cover the pan and cook gently for five more minutes. Serve hot.
