Yes, though other meats being more common, biryani eaters all over the world can easily swear by mutton. And not just biryanis, curries, bakes and all other preparations with this wonderful meat are always special. Did you know, unlike other dishes, a day-old mutton prep will always be all the more tastier on the palate! Try it the next time you plan on to take on this meat.

Ingredients for Shepherd's Pie - SK Khazana Recipe

  • Mutton mince (keema) 300 grams

  • Potatoes mashed

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Onions finely chopped 2 medium

  • Garlic finely chopped 8-10

  • Ginger finely chopped 1 inch

  • Celery chopped 2 tablespoons

  • Tomato chopped 1 medium

  • Tomato puree 1 cup

  • Carrots peeled and cut into small cubes 2 medium

  • Salt to taste

  • Crushed black peppercorns to taste

  • Dried oregano 1 teaspoon

  • Worcestershire sauce 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Peas blanched 1/2 cup

  • Sweet corn kernels boiled 1/2 cup

  • Parsley springs for garnish


Step 1

Heat oil in a deep pan, add onions and sauté for 2-3 minutes. Add garlic and ginger, mix well and saute for 1-2 minutes.

Step 2

Add mutton mince, break lumps while mixing and sauté on high heat for 2-3 minutes. Add celery and tomato and mix well.

Step 3

Add tomato puree, mix and sauté for 2-3 minutes. Add carrots and mix well.

Step 4

Preheat the oven to 180˚C.

Step 5

Add salt, crushed black peppercorns, oregano and Worcestershire sauce to the mince and mix well. Cover and cook till the mince is completely cooked.

Step 6

Add peas and sweet corn, mix well and cook for 1-2 minutes.

Step 7

Transfer the mixture into a shallow baking dish and spread evenly.,

Step 8

Transfer mashed potatoes into a piping bag fitted with a star nozzle and pipe out over the mince till it is completely covered.

Step 9

Keep the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes. Take it out of the oven.

Step 10

Ladle out portions into individual serving plates, garnish with parsley sprig and serve hot.
