Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Tender Jackfruit Curry Recipe

  • Jackfruit 250 grams

  • Coconut

  • Split pigeon pea (toor dal/arhar dal) 1 tablespoon

  • Onions 2

  • Coconut scraped 1/45 cup

  • Coriander seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Green peas soaked 2 tablespoons

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil 1/2 tablespoon

  • Mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoon


Step 1

Peel the jackfruit, remove the centre core and cut into 1” cubes. Peel and chop the onions. Roast the coriander seeds and powder them.

Step 2

Clean and wash the toor dal. Cook onion, toor dal and jackfruit cubes in 2 cups of water till done.

Step 3

Add coconut, coriander powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and soaked peas and cook for 15 minutes. Heat oil and add mustard seeds.

Step 4

When they crackle, add it to the jackfruit and cook for 5 minutes.
